Terms of Service
Last updated: July 31, 2026
Thank you for using Vox Learning! These Terms of Service ("Terms") apply to your use of the Vox Learning website, the Vox Learning browser extension, and any associated applications and services (collectively, the "Services"). You form a contract with us when you accept these Terms or otherwise use the Services.
Our Privacy Notice explains how we collect and use personal information. It does not form part of these Terms, but it is an important document you should read.
Who we are
Vox Learning helps people learn languages from the shows they watch and the books they read. The Services are provided by:
- TOO Vox Learning, a company incorporated in the Republic of Kazakhstan, registered office at Kazakhstan, city of Astana, district Yesil, prospekt Kabanbay Batyr, house 6/3, apt. 8, 010000, company number 250940001060 ("Vox Learning", "we", "us", "our").
Registration and access
Minimum age. You must be at least 13 years old, or the minimum age required in your country to consent to use the Services. If you are under 18, you must have your parent or legal guardian's permission, and ask them to read these Terms with you.
Registration. You register using Google Sign-In. You must not share your account credentials or make your account available to anyone else, and you are responsible for all activity under your account.
Using our Services
What you can do. Subject to your compliance with these Terms, you may access and use the Services, including the browser extension's subtitle-capture features, the built-in reader for your own books, and the flashcard review system.
What you cannot do. You may not use the Services to:
- Infringe, misappropriate, or violate anyone's rights.
- Modify, copy, lease, sell, or distribute any part of the Services.
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or otherwise attempt to discover the source code or underlying components of the Services, except to the extent this restriction is prohibited by applicable law.
- Automatically or programmatically extract data or Content (defined below) from the Services.
- Interfere with or disrupt the Services, including circumventing rate limits or protective measures.
Third-party service providers. To provide word explanations, text-to-speech audio, and translations, the Services send the relevant word, sentence, or phrase to third-party providers on your behalf, currently OpenAI (explanations and text-to-speech) and Google (translation). Billing for paid subscriptions is handled by Paddle, described further below. These providers are subject to their own terms, and process the data we send them under contractual terms we put in place with each of them, as described in our Privacy Notice.
Feedback. We appreciate feedback about the Services, and you agree we may use it to provide, maintain, and improve the Services, without compensation to you.
Content
Your content. You may provide input to the Services, such as saved words, sentences, comments, and uploaded books ("Content"), and receive output based on that input, such as explanations, translations, and audio. While you watch a video with the extension, it keeps a short rolling buffer, on your device, of the audio your browser is playing; nothing from that buffer leaves your device unless you save a word. When you save a word from a video, a short audio clip and a picture of the scene are kept with it; these are also Content. You may save clips and images only for your own personal study, and you may not extract or redistribute them. Your use of any third-party video service remains governed by your agreement with that service. You are responsible for your Content, including ensuring it does not violate any applicable law or these Terms, and you represent that you have the right for the clips and images you save to be collected, stored, and played back to you as part of the Services.
Ownership of content. You retain full ownership of any Content you upload or save (including saved audio clips and scene images), and you assume full risk and liability for storing copyrighted or protected material. You grant us a limited license to host, store, reproduce, and transmit that Content solely to provide the Services to you, for example to play a saved clip back to you on review. We do not claim any other rights to your Content, and we do not use your Content to train our own models, for advertising, or to develop other products. We restrict access to your Content internally to what is necessary to operate, maintain, and support the Services, for example to investigate a bug you report, or to respond to the legal requests described below.
Accuracy. Explanations, translations, and other output are generated using third-party machine-translation and language-analysis services and may not always be accurate. Given the probabilistic nature of these tools, you should not rely on this output as a sole source of truth, and it does not represent Vox Learning's views.
Content moderation. In limited circumstances (such as responding to legal notices, investigating abuse, complying with court orders, or enforcing these Terms) we may access, review, and remove Content that comes to our attention and appears to violate the law or these Terms.
Our IP rights
We and our affiliates own all rights, title, and interest in and to the Services themselves.
Paid accounts
Free trial. New accounts include a 7-day free trial with full access to the Services. The trial requires no payment method, and it does not convert into a paid subscription on its own: when it ends, nothing is charged and no card is billed. To continue using the paid features after the trial, you choose a subscription yourself. One trial is available per account.
Paid subscriptions. Some Services may require a paid subscription to unlock additional features ("Benefits"). The exact Benefits and fees will be shown to you before purchase, and you can manage your subscription from your account settings.
Payment processing. Payments are processed by Paddle.com Market Limited or its applicable local affiliate ("Paddle"), our authorized reseller and merchant of record. Paddle handles billing, invoicing, payment collection, and applicable sales tax/VAT, and your purchase is also subject to Paddle's own terms. We do not receive or store your full payment card details; see our Privacy Notice for what we do receive.
Billing. Paid subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel. If a payment cannot be completed, we may downgrade or suspend your access until payment is received.
See our Refund Policy for the cooling-off period, cancellation, and price-change terms that apply to paid subscriptions.
Termination and suspension
Your rights. You can stop using the Services and close your account at any time from your account settings, or by contacting contact@vox-learning.com. Closing your account starts the account-deletion process described in our Privacy Notice.
EEA consumer withdrawal right. If you are an EEA-based consumer, you can close your account and withdraw from these Terms within 14 days of accepting them by contacting contact@vox-learning.com.
Our rights. We may restrict, suspend, or terminate your access, or close your account, if we determine, acting reasonably, that:
- You breached these Terms.
- We must do so to comply with the law.
- Your use of the Services could cause risk or harm to Vox Learning, our users, or anyone else.
- Your account has been inactive for over a year and you do not have a paid subscription.
Notice. If we terminate your account, we will make reasonable efforts to notify you in advance, unless it isn't appropriate to do so, we believe continued access would cause harm, or we are legally prohibited from doing so.
Appeals. If you believe we suspended or terminated your account in error, you can appeal by contacting contact@vox-learning.com.
Our commitments to you
We commit to provide the Services with reasonable skill and care and to act with professional diligence. We do not promise to offer the Services forever or in their current form for any particular period of time.
Provided we have acted with professional diligence, we do not take responsibility for loss or damage caused by us, unless it results from our breach of these Terms, or for loss or damage caused by events beyond our reasonable control. We do not exclude or limit our liability where it would be unlawful to do so, and nothing here affects your statutory rights as a consumer.
EEA consumer guarantee. If you are an EEA-based consumer, EEA consumer law provides you with a legal guarantee covering the Services. Contact contact@vox-learning.com with any questions.
Dispute resolution
If we have a dispute, we would like to understand and try to address your concerns before any formal legal action. Please contact contact@vox-learning.com first.
These Terms, and any dispute arising out of or related to them, are governed by the laws of England and Wales, without regard to conflict-of-law principles, and are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere in the EEA or UK, you may also have the right to bring proceedings in the courts of your own country of residence, and to use out-of-court dispute resolution mechanisms available to you there.
Copyright complaints
If you believe your intellectual property rights have been infringed, please contact contact@vox-learning.com. We may remove or disable content alleged to be infringing and may terminate accounts of repeat infringers. Written claims should include:
- A signature of the person authorized to act on behalf of the copyright owner.
- A description of the copyrighted work you claim has been infringed.
- A description of where the allegedly infringing material is located, so we can find it.
- Your address, telephone number, and email address.
- A statement that you have a good-faith belief the disputed use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
- A statement, under penalty of perjury, that the above information is accurate and that you are the copyright owner or authorized to act on their behalf.
General terms
Assignment. You may not assign or transfer any rights or obligations under these Terms. We may assign or transfer ours to an affiliate, subsidiary, or successor in interest, without affecting your rights as a consumer.
Changes to these Terms. We may update these Terms from time to time, for example due to changes in the law, security reasons, or changes we make to the Services. We will give you at least 30 days' notice, by email or in-product notification, of changes that materially and adversely affect you. If you do not agree to a change, you must stop using the Services.
Severability. If any part of these Terms is found invalid or unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. A delay in enforcing a provision does not waive our (or your) right to enforce it later.
Trade controls. You must comply with all applicable trade laws, including sanctions and export control laws. The Services may not be used in or for the benefit of any individual, entity, or destination prohibited or restricted under applicable trade laws.
Business use addendum
If you use the Services for commercial or business use, this addendum applies, and takes precedence over the rest of these Terms in the event of a conflict.
Neither we nor our affiliates or licensors will be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or exemplary damages, including damages for loss of profits, goodwill, use, or data, even if advised of the possibility of such damages. Our aggregate liability under these Terms will not exceed the greater of the amount you paid for the Service giving rise to the claim during the 12 months before the claim arose, or one hundred US dollars ($100), except to the extent applicable law does not allow this limitation.
If you are a business or organization, to the extent permitted by law, you will indemnify and hold harmless us, our affiliates, and our personnel from third-party claims arising out of or relating to your use of the Services, your Content, or any violation of these Terms.
